Worms (PSN) Review

Game Review – Worms (PSN)

Having played the first three on the Playstation this Is a game I have been looking forward to for a while and the game still remains as it once was!

You will notice the first change and that is the game is in High Definition which I personally have looked forward to the most. As before in all Worms games it’s a 2D turn-based shoot each other game with all your favourite weapons which include the infamous ‘Holy Hand Grenade’!, ‘Banana Bomb’, ‘Sheep’ and also the ‘Concrete Donkey’. You will notice the game has well over 20 weapons and aids such as Ninja Ropes and Jet Packs and even the Teleport as well.

When you first get into the game screen you get the choice of 5 options. The first option is the ‘Single Player’ mode. In this mode you can either play a quick game, play a training mission and as before you can play a challenge. In the quick game mode you can either choose between three difficulty modes to test your skills with the computer. I have never played the Pro mode as to be honest I am not that brilliant! Whatever mode you choose the next screen will take you into the map screen where you can: Toggle the mines, toggle the objects, configure the style, regenerate a random landscape or even enter your favourite landscape by entering a code.

There is also a ‘Multiplayer’ mode where you can play a local game (You can use either one or more controllers up to a maximum of four players) or you can play an online game. I found it very simple to set up an online game to be honest as you can either join a game somebody else has made or even host your own and select your own preferences. You can also use headsets which I find fun as you can always laugh down at someone when you performed a cocky shot! Or when you use that holy hand grenade!

In the ‘Game Settings’ menu you can change the game style such as changing the number of rounds, turn time and also the mine detonate time. I have also noticed that you can also change the ‘Weapon Set’ as well so if you wanted most of the weapons to have unlimited capacity (except the Banana Bomb, Cluster Bomb and Uzi) you could. As before you can also edit your teams and give each worm different names and speeches or even a pre-set gravestone!

Anyway I have the found the game very fun to play, especially with other people (mainly online!) and Team 17 has done a very good job bringing this title to the PSN. Bring on Worms Armageddon!

Pros:

  • Has trophy support

  • Play online

  • Has the holy hand grenade!

  • In High Definition

Cons:

  • Feel that there should of have been more weapons from the original three such as exploding Granny or Homing Pigeon but we could see this next time?!

Pixeljunk Monsters Recieves Update For Trophies!

Today a patch went live for Pixeljunk Monsters which enables us to earn trophies for this title. For gamers who are worried about them being retro-active, it’s neither as they have released an extra mode within the game called ‘Trophy Challenge’ which are special little mini tasks such as finish a stage without upgrading towers etc.

As some of you may know getting trophies for these types of games can be quite difficult but it gives you a challenge I suppose. With so many games out are you going to be playing this game for trophies?!

Battlefield: Bad Company Patch Released Today…With Trophies!

Good news for Battlefield fans as EA Dice are releasing their latest patch which will include a 4 map packs and of course ‘Trophy Support’ which means we will probably start the game all over to earn those precious trophies for our collection.

The update will also fix technical error’s such as in-game glitches which some of you may or may not notice (I didn’t by the way). I will probably put some time in getting these trophies but at the moment I am being fairly occupied in the last two weeks of latest release titles!

GTA IV Patch Coming Tomorrow….With Trophies!

As they confirmed this a while a back, it’s a sigh of relief when they announced that GTA IV will be getting trophies on the 27th October which is tomorrow! We will have to play the game through again as they won’t be retroactive but nevermind it gives people the excuse to play the game again. I know there may be gamers out there that have already played well over 80hrs of the game already but as I haven’t played it since a month after it released I don’t really mind.

At the minute there are so many games that are being released with trophies and of course recently with titles such as Burnout and Mercs 2.

Lost Season 4 Out On Blu-ray Tomorrow

This is excellent news for Lost fans as season 4 of the ‘Lost’ is out on Blu-ray tomorrow which means we can discover secrets of the island in high definition! I hope to see the other three seasons of ‘Lost’ out in the near future on Blu-ray as I’m sure they would make great additions to anyone’s collection.

What other series could we have on Blu-ray in the future? Farscape anyone! or maybe Star Trek TNG! Let’s hope that more TV shows will appear on Blu-ray like their DVD counterparts.

Top Three Games Due For Release This Week

Another good week for the PS3 this week as we have three excellent looking games coming out. The first game which I think will be a hit is ‘Dead Space’. This is a third person shooter game and obviously it’s a survival horror game set in space with all sorts of horrible nasties you can expect to make you jump! This game will have trophy support so let’s hope that every time you earn a trophy, the notification won’t scare you.

The other two games coming out this week are Far Cry 2 and Midnight Club: Los Angeles. Far Cry 2 is a first person shooter set in Africa and will not be a sequel to ‘Far Cry’. Midnight Club: Los Angeles is quite like ‘Burnout Paradise’ where you can race against other players all over the city but they are different in quite a lot of ways. Both of these games will have trophy support on release which is always a good thing.

LittleBigPlanet Delayed In Europe

It’s never nice to hear that a game is delayed but unfortunately LittleBigPlanet has been delayed because one one of the soundtracks contains lyrics which offends the Muslims. Never mind, I’m quite certain that the game will be released on the 31st October instead and the delay isn’t as bad as many thought.

This week sees the release of Dead Space, Far Cry 2 and also Midnight Club. All of these games have trophy support on release which is a good thing and therefore should keep us occupied until the big day comes!
