Game Review – Worms (PSN)

Having played the first three on the Playstation this Is a game I have been looking forward to for a while and the game still remains as it once was!

You will notice the first change and that is the game is in High Definition which I personally have looked forward to the most. As before in all Worms games it’s a 2D turn-based shoot each other game with all your favourite weapons which include the infamous ‘Holy Hand Grenade’!, ‘Banana Bomb’, ‘Sheep’ and also the ‘Concrete Donkey’. You will notice the game has well over 20 weapons and aids such as Ninja Ropes and Jet Packs and even the Teleport as well.

When you first get into the game screen you get the choice of 5 options. The first option is the ‘Single Player’ mode. In this mode you can either play a quick game, play a training mission and as before you can play a challenge. In the quick game mode you can either choose between three difficulty modes to test your skills with the computer. I have never played the Pro mode as to be honest I am not that brilliant! Whatever mode you choose the next screen will take you into the map screen where you can: Toggle the mines, toggle the objects, configure the style, regenerate a random landscape or even enter your favourite landscape by entering a code.

There is also a ‘Multiplayer’ mode where you can play a local game (You can use either one or more controllers up to a maximum of four players) or you can play an online game. I found it very simple to set up an online game to be honest as you can either join a game somebody else has made or even host your own and select your own preferences. You can also use headsets which I find fun as you can always laugh down at someone when you performed a cocky shot! Or when you use that holy hand grenade!

In the ‘Game Settings’ menu you can change the game style such as changing the number of rounds, turn time and also the mine detonate time. I have also noticed that you can also change the ‘Weapon Set’ as well so if you wanted most of the weapons to have unlimited capacity (except the Banana Bomb, Cluster Bomb and Uzi) you could. As before you can also edit your teams and give each worm different names and speeches or even a pre-set gravestone!

Anyway I have the found the game very fun to play, especially with other people (mainly online!) and Team 17 has done a very good job bringing this title to the PSN. Bring on Worms Armageddon!

Pros:

  • Has trophy support

  • Play online

  • Has the holy hand grenade!

  • In High Definition

Cons:

  • Feel that there should of have been more weapons from the original three such as exploding Granny or Homing Pigeon but we could see this next time?!
